General Description

The Transportation & Logistics Manager has complete responsibility for all aspects of our outbound operations as well as logistics & fleet management which includes shipping, quality control and inventory management responsibilities within the shipping area and associated storage facilities. The Transportation & Logistics Manager will work directly with the Warehouse Operations Manager and the Inventory Manager to efficiently execute order fulfillments and on-time deliveries for our outbound operations in accordance with the organization’s processes. Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead and supervise a team of hourly associates in outbound & transportation/logistics operations. Responsible for the overall safety, quality and performance and customer experience
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures
  • Accountability for meeting and exceeding operational goals and managing the company logistics fleet
  • Strategic planning and forecasting; appraise performance; incentives and accountability for employees; resolve problems; and address staffing needs
  • Ability to develop and share best practices in transportation & logistics and across the supply chain including planning, project management, purchasing, receiving, inventory and distribution. This position requires a candidate with the proven ability to drive process improvements and the ability to keep pace with our explosive growth while motivating others to meet the challenges of an extremely deadline-driven environment
  • Direct the logistics activities and oversee the day-to-day operations; hands-on experience transacting and analyzing inventory and shipments within business software systems
  • Develop transportation & logistics operations system improvements by analyzing process workflow, manning and space requirements, and equipment layout; implementing change to reduce defects
  • Establish and report on transportation & logistics metrics to drive continuous improvement
  • Negotiate transportation rates and services with freight carriers to obtain the most cost-effective and efficient means of transporting products and materials
  • Analyze the financial impact of proposed logistic changes, such as routing, shipping modes, 3rd-party services, and product volumes/mixes or carriers
  • Manage hiring, training and supervision of transportation and logistics operations staff
  • Establish goals, operational procedures, objectives and position responsibilities for direct reports
  • Analyze operations and develop/recommend/implement continuous operational improvements
  • Establish, meet, track and report on operational budgets and goals
  • Monitor and maintain all fleet assets to include PM schedules, DOT files, and carrier requirements
  • Insure compliance with all local, federal, and international transportation agencies including but not limited to DOT regulations, OSHA, TWC, etc.
  • Manage work schedules according to fluctuating customer demand

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business or equivalent experience. Industry certifications and/or MBA or relevant graduate degree a plus
  • Extensive transportation & logistics operations experience with a track record of DOT/OSHA/ISO 9001 compliance and process improvement including a minimum 3 to 5 years of complete responsibility for transportation and logistics operations
  • Self-directed individual who is able to work in an environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal and external customers
  • Experience working effectively in complex organizations, satisfying the needs of diverse constituents and often working under the pressure of competing and sometimes conflicting priorities
  • Able to manage, lead, and develop operational staff
  • Experience with performance metrics, process improvement, and Lean techniques(how, when, who)
